Early in the morning of May 29th, four chartered-buses left Garfield Middle School for a three-day trip to Niagara Falls, Canada.   Nearly 160 people were part of the group, which included students, teachers, and parent-chaperones.   When the buses returned to GMS at 6:15 pm on Friday, May 31, everyone agreed that the trip was a success!

Planning for the trip begins a year prior.  Mrs. Lori Morgan, GMS math teacher, spearheads the effort.  She organizes the whole program, setting the contracts with the buses, the hotels, the various attractions visited, and meals.   Mrs. Chris Schaefer, school secretary, helps with the paperwork and financial transactions.  The Middle School Volunteer Parents provide nightly snacks and refreshments.

This year's trip included a ride on the Maid of the Mist, a visit to Cave of the Winds, dining at the Skylon tower, a visit to Journey Behind the Falls, a visit to Niagara's Fury simulator, a ride on the Spanish Aero Car, a view of the Whitewater Walk, and a dinner show called, Oh Canada, eh!   Students were also treated to an indoor water park, attached to the hotel, and they toured Fort Erie and witnessed reenactments of fort life.

Thank you to the GMS staff who help lead the trip, the parent chaperones, and the students who attended for a fantastic trip.   Preparations are already being made for next year's trip, and we can expect another enjoyable, activity-filled event!  Go G-Men!
