On May 9th, James A. Garfield Middle School hosted an exciting and informative Career Day for its 8th-grade students, offering a unique opportunity for them to explore a wide variety of career paths. With 28 different speakers hailing from across Portage County, Michigan, and Texas, the event covered fields as diverse as Physical Therapy, School Superintendency, Special Education, and even professional roles like an Assistant NFL Coach with the Houston Texans.
Career Day featured speakers from numerous industries, including banking, police work, HR, small business ownership, supply chain management, human resources, nursing leadership, and more. Other fields represented were carpentry, electrical work, robotics engineering, tech support, and even auto service and nuclear mechanics.
Students had the chance to create their own schedules, choosing from over 15 different sessions based on their personal interests. Throughout the day, they engaged in lively Q&A sessions with the professionals, gaining invaluable insight into the skills, education, and experiences required for success in each field.
The event received positive feedback from the students, with many expressing excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to learn directly from experts in their fields.
A special thanks goes to Mrs. Scirocco, Mrs. Law, and Mrs. Cozad for organizing the event and ensuring it ran smoothly. Additionally, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the speakers who took time out of their busy schedules to share their knowledge and inspire our students.
This Career Day was a great success in preparing students for the future, giving them a closer look at the many exciting paths that lie ahead. It was a great day to be a G-Man!
Go G-Men!
