James A. Garfield Middle School is proud to celebrate 8th grader Sabrina Evans, who recently achieved an incredible milestone by winning the Knights of Columbus Ohio State Council 2026 State Free Throw Competition in the Girls 14-Year-Old Division.

Held last weekend in Columbus, the statewide competition brought together top shooters from across Ohio and took place in a packed gymnasium with standing room only—an atmosphere filled with pressure, excitement, and high expectations. Sabrina rose to the moment in remarkable fashion.

After watching her competitor make an impressive 17 out of 25 free throws, Sabrina stepped to the line with confidence. With only three practice shots to prepare, she delivered when it mattered most—knocking down 18 out of 25 shots, including her final four in a row to secure the state title.

Sabrina’s journey to the championship was just as impressive as her final performance. She first earned her spot by winning the local competition at Garfield Middle School, followed by a victory at the regional competition in Youngstown, before advancing to the state stage in Columbus.
Her accomplishment reflects not only her skill and composure under pressure, but also her dedication, focus, and perseverance—qualities that embody what it means to be a G-Man.

Congratulations, Sabrina, on this outstanding achievement! The Middle School is proud of you and we are excited to see what you accomplish on the high school court next season. It was a great weekend to be a G-Man!
Go G-Men!
