COVID

By 7pm this evening we will be posting student assignments for Group A and Group B.  Students in Group A have the last names beginning with letters A-K.  Students in Group B have the last names beginning with letters L-Z. We are posting this list to clarify any questions you may have about family groupings with different last names.

These lists will be posted at the elementary school main entrance and the event entrance for the middle and high school.  As a reminder, students assigned to Group A will attend school on Tuesday, September 8 and students assigned to group B will attend school on Wednesday, September 9.  All students in grades 1-12 will attend school September 10.  Preschool and Kindergarten will begin school on Monday, September 14th.

I wanted to share that one of our staff members, Mr. Bartz, has been assigned to be our Online Learning Coordinator.  Mr. Bartz will be in contact with families who chose to learn online for the first semester.  He  will share important details about how learning will begin for their children.  Mr. Bartz brings a wealth of experience and technological skills to this position and we are lucky to have him in this role supporting our parents, teachers and students.

Finally, I wanted to discuss briefly the importance of home health screenings as we begin the school year.  Prior to sending children to school, families should make daily checks for the following:

  • Fever of 100 ̊F or higher

  • Chills

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Fatigue

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Headache

  • Loss of taste or smell

  • Sore throat, congestion or runny nose

  • Nausea, vomiting or Diarrhea

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you should remain home.  These screenings are our first step in keeping the virus away from our school buildings. We appreciate your help in making this a critical part of your morning routines.

Next, I would like to remind everyone of our new athletic policies.  Due to limited capacity at our facilities we are required to restrict the number of tickets to our athletic events to two tickets per athlete, band member or cheerleader. It is strongly recommended these two tickets be limited to family members or members of a household.  We will be releasing our online ticketing software this week.  If a game is scheduled prior to the online ticketing system is up and running, please know that the same limits apply.

While at sporting events fans must wear masks and social distance.  Failure to do so will result in removal from the game.  We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Staff return this week and will begin training on a number of new procedures and tools. We have hundreds of years of collective experience on our team at Garfield, but this year we are all new employees in some regard.  We are excited about seeing your children again and look forward to an excellent school year.

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me directly.

Have a great day, and Go G-Men!
