The eighth grade volleyball team gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about this week, defeating Crestview to secure back-to-back MVAC championships! The girls finished the season undefeated in league play without dropping a single set, adding another league title to a season that also included winning the Rootstown midseason tournament.
The championship match provided a great example of our Core Value of Perseverance. After falling behind 7–1 in the opening set, the girls stayed focused, worked together, and battled back to win 25–17. They carried that momentum into the second set, closing out the match with a 25–15 victory.
The energy in the gym made the celebration even better. An enthusiastic student section showed up to support their classmates and helped create a memorable atmosphere for a championship win on our home court.
A special shout-out goes to Coach Smallwood, who led the team to victory in her first season as head coach. Whether she is helping students work through challenges in math class or guiding the girls through a tough stretch on the court, Coach Smallwood is helping our students succeed. Special thanks also go to Greg for treating the girls to a pregame meal from Raising Cane’s!
The girls now turn their attention to their toughest competition yet. Next Friday, they will face the undefeated Lab Rats for the true middle school championship. Bragging rights are on the line, and we look forward to seeing whether the girls can keep their winning streak alive!
Congratulations to our eighth grade volleyball team and Coach Smallwood on an outstanding season. Go G-Men!
While this article was created in part with the help of artificial intelligence, the experiences and accomplishments of our students and staff were very much real. It was a great day to be a G-Man!
