Good afternoon JAG Families & Community -
Late last week Governor DeWine announced that due to decreasing cases and an increase in vaccinations all health restrictions will be lifted on June 2nd. As has been our practice this entire pandemic, we have consulted with the Portage County Health District to confirm how this will impact our schools.
Today, I am pleased to announce the following changes that will be in effect beginning Wednesday, June 2, 2021:
Masks will no longer be required at JAG Schools
Social distancing restrictions will no longer apply in our schools
Students & staff should still remain home if they have a fever or are feeling ill
Masks will be optional for those wishing to wear them
Frequent hand washing and sanitizing will continue
Nightly disinfecting of all classroom spaces will continue
Isolation of positive cases and quarantine due to exposure will continue
At this time, these changes will apply to the last two days of school, summer school and the 2021-2022 school year. Our online academy as an option for all students will come to an end this summer and only be offered to students who are medically fragile.
The bottom line....Garfield Schools will be open for business as usual for the 2021-22 school year!
As we look forward to June 2nd, the coming weeks will require us to continue with the same procedures that have kept us safe all year. In some ways it is like running a marathon. Even though we are at the final mile it is not any easier. I am proud of how our students, staff and community have come together during this pandemic. It will most certainly be a time we never forget.
As we look forward to August, we will be implementing a theme for next school year. Our theme will be “Reconnect” and we will have different activities each month to reconnect with our students, community, parents and businesses since we have been away in so many different aspects of our lives.
Finally, I would like to encourage you to thank our employees if you get a chance. They have been so flexible and worked so hard this year to make sure our kids felt safe and still enjoyed school. We should all be inspired by how they have gone above and beyond.
In closing, I am looking forward to seeing all of our students smiling faces on June 2!
