The Nationwide Waiver to Allow Summer Food Service Program and Seamless Summer Option Operations through December 2020

The USDA has extended the Summer Food Service program through December 31, 2020 if funding is adequate.  This allows James A Garfield to distribute meals to the students attending face-to-face classes at no charge, breakfast and lunch.  There will be charges for ala carte items such as individual milk only purchases and additional servings or extra items.

The District will also distribute meals to children who are not present during regular meal service by distributing bagged meals for the week to students starting Monday, September 14, 2020.  We will start offering delivery with the Monday, November 2, 2020 distribution. If you choose delivery, someone must be present from 1pm to 3pm on Monday to accept the delivery.

The District requests completion of the online pick-up order form (through Google forms) by 4 p.m. Friday for the following Monday pick-up.  This allows the cafeteria staff to be better prepared for distribution.  https://forms.gle/ti6sVCpZRSTf...

James A. Garfield is an open site for food distribution for children in the area ages 1 to 18.
Distribution includes 5 days of breakfast and 5 days of lunch.  Curbside pickup is available from 9 am to 10:30 am each Monday at the High School event entrance starting Monday, September 14.  Please make the onsite staff aware of non-school age or alternative school children in the household when you are picking up meals for students.

As we continue this interesting year of 2020, many of the families at James A Garfield have not reapplied for free/reduced meals.  This does make sense, as meals are currently free for all students, both breakfast and lunch, but there are other important considerations.

The school district receives various funding and is eligible for additional grant opportunities based on the number of free/reduced applicants attending school.  A reduction in applicants leads to a reduction in funding.

Also many families received pandemic funding cards through the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services if they qualified for free/reduced meals.  The data is collected through the school district and if you do not have a current application on file with James A Garfield; any future relief funds will not be available to you.

If you have already applied or received a direct certification letter, thank you!  If not, please consider completing an application either via the online system at http://jaglocal.schoollunchapp...  or you can download a copy of the application at jagschools.org.

If you have questions, please contact the district office at 330.527.4336 or via email at tknauer@jagschools.org and we will assist you.
